Support Group for People suffering from Heart Diseases

I have a arrythmia for the past 2 years its gotten worse i get it more often and i have to cough to try and stop it, so far it works but for how long? its very scary. my doctor wants to put me on metopolol 25mg 1x a day he says this should help with my skip beats and arrthymias if not he will find a different medicine. but im scared and dont want this to happen anymore. Does anyone have what i have? and does this medicine really help stop these arrythmias? and if it dont what next? My doctor is looking to give a echo stress test to see if i have a mitro valve leak because he herd a click sound with the stethoscope and I do have mitro valve since i was a kid but now i get short of breath and a click i can hear myself and the doctor can hear it to. this test is suppose to tell him if its really bad or mild, if its bad i guess im looking at a heart operation? If they repair my valve would this cure my arrythmia?

hi mary. my problems are like yours and i take metopolol. i also have a icd. i seem to be doing fine for 2 years now. i had tachycardia and suffered a cardiac arrest.
did you suffer the cardiac arrest before the metrpolol and icd. or after the metropolol and icd? i went back to the doctor on jan 14th i went for a stress test no mitro valuve so they say! just a very rapid heart rate, went up to fast on the thread mill in 10 seconds from 80 bpm to 150-then to 210bpms. he called it sinus tacharkardia very fast rythem. they put me on antenolol 12.5 mg for now to see if they can get my heart back to regular rythem so far im on it 4 days no skip beats or arrythmias but to soon to tell! they want to see me back in two weeks, to see how the medicine is working and if i need a ep study. to see if they can stop the mis fires electrical problem maybe! im scared i heard so many stories about this some work for a little while and others say it dont! some say it cured them! i guess if its bad they will put a pace maker/icd to! so far my medicine is keeping my heart rate at 65 70 beats a min. before it was 85=107 bpm while at rest it would fluxtuate.....my pressure was always 110/70 now its 124/80 withn the meds, still normal range....i hope the medicine works, this way i dont have to go for a ep study! and if the medicine does work, i guess this is for life? its hard to believe that the medicine can stop arrythmias! this medicine is also used fcor people with thyroid problems it blocks certain receptors from releasing a harmone that speeds the heart up! i guess thats why they call it adrenalin blockers! my husband is on metropolol to 50 mg a day, he has svt. hes been in and out of hospitals recently for it and hes had it for 1/1/2 now! seems to be getting worse now he feels presuure in his chest they ruled out a heart attack! but might be a blockage, first it was a electrical problen plus a blockage.....they might be doing a cathetor to see if his heart has any blocked arteries... in two weeks.. were both a mess! hoping for the best! im glad to hear that your problem is better now! so no more skip beats? i guess the medicine is working.... mine i feel a flutter very lightly in my throat area! which is alot better than before! my heart use to do flip flops and just go out of rythem, i hope this helps! take care! god bless us all!
